Memory is one of the most complicated cognitive functions that make many complex behaviors possible. In this section, we highlight the various forms of memory and explain:
- The brain areas involved in that particular memory form
- The development of that type of memory in humans and rodents
We will also take a special look at the following more advanced aspects and how they pertain to memory:
- Behavioral assays. We will go over the behavioral tests that are used in behavioral neuroscience practiced for testing that particular type of memory.
- Pharmaceutical studies. We will highlight and discuss some drugs that affect the type of memory (positively or negatively) in rodent models, including their mechanism of action.
- Disorders and abnormalities. Also, particular disorders, abnormalities or conditions which affect the type of memory (positively or negatively) in rodent models will be discussed.
