The nature of consciousness, the mechanism by which it occurs in the brain, and its ultimate place in the universe are unknown. Two scientists proposed in the mid 1990ʼs that consciousness depends on biologically ‘orchestrated’ coherent quantum processes in collections of microtubules within brain neurons! Furthermore, they proposed that the quantim activity actually regulated synptic activity. The moments of choice in our lives resulted from Schrödinger evolution of each such processes.
After all, from Descartes Dualism: Consciousness is a separate quality, distinct from physical actions and not controlled by physical laws, that has always been in the universe.
It gets wackier! They proposed that the brainʼs biomolecular processes and the basic structure of the universe were inherently related through this mechanism.
Here is the best part: What are the most necessary parts of conciousness to think about?
‘Cognitive behaviors of single cell organisms: Protozoans like Physarum can escape mazes and solve problems, and Paramecium (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1571064513001188#br0250) can swim, find food and mates(http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1571064513001188#br0260) , learn, remember and have sex, all without synaptic connections. How is this possible?
